Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid (adrenocortical hormone) that helps to reduce symptoms associated with inflammation.

Additionally, dexamethasone plays a role in important metabolic processes. This medication is used as a treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older, weighing at least 40 kg, who experience difficulty breathing and require oxygen therapy.
